We aim to give you an overview of the legal rights of Young Carers, Care Leavers, and Disabled Young People to transition planning and other social services / community care issues. You will learn what duties are owed to your clients by the local authority and how to help young people access the services they should be receiving, such as help with housing, education and employment.
Central London Community Law Centre Debt Advisor will talk about the best ways to help young people deal with their debt problems from mobile phone bills to water rates and council tax. You will learn what are priority and non priority debts, how debt problems can be dealt with, and strategies that might help prevent debts arising.
Coram Children’s Legal Centre will be giving a talk on the rights of Migrant Children including the different situations young people might find themselves in where they need to resolve immigration status, and what steps might need to be taken. You will learn about the law and policy affecting young refugees and migrants and how their needs can be addressed.
You will leave better equipped to help the young people accessing your services by identifying when they have a legal issue, help them to resolve the issue, or if you are unable to do so, know where to refer them for specialist help.
