Refugee / Education

This is the page where information on the Wandsworth Refugee/Education Group will appear and be updated. This group is just being set up – please see the appeal below and contact Lucy for more information

Dear All,

I know we are all way too busy, but we want to set up a Wandsworth Refugee/Education group. There have been networks in the past, but there is nothing operating at present and we think that there is a real need for this group.

This will not take up a lot of your time (only 2 hours twice a year) and will not entail any additional work apart from attending the sessions. It will be for us all to share and benefit from our joint experience of refugee communities and education issues. We can share information, work in partnership and avoid duplication. We will mainly invite people/organisations working in and around Wandsworth, but we are also welcoming people from outside the borough who are interested/have particular skills to share. Interested individuals from refugee communities will be essential participants.

We will organise two structured sessions each year, which will aim to be both informative and provide opportunities for sharing and partnership work. Groups will have opportunities to publicise services, and learn about groups where they may be able to refer clients etc. In addition, we will ‘showcase’ services, and particularly share information about gaps or challenges in service provision, which will provide good evidence for funding applications. Participation in this group will also be good evidence for funders that we are working together and sharing good practice!

I have only sent this invitation to our contacts, so if you are able to forward it to any people/organisations who might be interested in attending – that would be great! If you can copy me into the email then I’ll be able to add them to our contacts list.

Please can you respond to this invitation with a 1-line email if you might be able to join this group, then I will send you more information and dates.

If you have ideas about how you’d like the group to work or you have any capacity to support us in running it – please do let me know! We are only too happy of course to rotate roles, venues etc.

Many thanks in advance for your solidarity,

Lucy and all at Love to Learn
